There may be clinical reasons for having your baby in hospital, or it may just be that being in hospital makes you feel secure. Either way we are happy to support you with your hospital birth. Our insurance covers us to accompany you into any hospital of your choice. We are there to act as a team with the hospital staff to ensure that you get the optimum experience of maternity care whilst having your baby. Often the most challenging thing is trying to work out when to go in. If you go in too soon you may be sent home again which is demoralising and uncomfortable. At Sage Femme we offer home early labour assessments to help you make that decision. We will care for you at home until you are ready to transfer and then accompany you on the journey so that you won’t have to worry about changes that could take place on the way.
Once you are in hospital we will provide you with non-clinical care as well as acting as your advocate so that your birth choices are adhered to as far as possible by the hospital. The continuity and reinforcement of information will ensure that you feel positive in even the most clinical of settings. It also means that even with stretched resources and lower staffing levels you will always have someone with you. The relationship you have built with your midwife during the pregnancy will make you more relaxed which in turn is likely to reduce your need for early pain relief which could lead to more complications.
After the birth your midwife will stay to ensure that you are offered skin to skin with your new baby and helped with early feeding. We will make sure that before leaving you in the care of hospital staff we give you all the information needed to make you feel confident in your first hours and days as a parent. You will be able to continue to contact us at any time until your first postnatal visit with us.
